Announcing: Shop & Care!
Shop and Care is a brand new program from Texas PTA designating easy, non-traditional fundraisers. Nontraditional fundraisers are a great way to support your PTA’s financial goals without taxing your volunteer pool or expending your members’ willingness to give.
• Shop and Care fundraisers are easy to do!
• Shop and Care fundraisers sell things people were going to buy anyway, and at the regular price - or even at a discount!
• The more Shop and Care fundraisers you participate in, the more money you’ll make, and the more likely you’ll be to have something your members might want!
• Shop and Care fundraisers actually benefit your PTA twice because each participating fundraiser donates some of their profits to Texas PTA! Since the main function of the Texas PTA is to provide the services and resources your PTA needs to be successful, that means each fundraiser helps your PTA twice! Note: In all cases, Texas PTA’s share is coming out of the fundraising company’s budget and not out of the profit your PTA will make. Your PTA’s share is still as great as it would be normally!
Shop and Care will soon offer a wide variety of nontraditional fundraisers. The more you participate in, the more you’ll make for your PTA, and the more you’ll be helping Texas PTA offer better service to PTAs in Texas!
Apangea Learning - Online Math Tutoring: The Texas PTA and Apangea Learning have teamed up to provide a special offer to PTAs throughout Texas. For just $100, any child (grades 5-12) can receive one-on-one math tutoring from Apangea Learning for the entire summer. And for each child from your school who is registered, Apangea Learning will donate $20 to your PTA! Imagine, if only 50 students from your school enroll, your PTA will earn $1,000!
Contact Matt Hausmann at Apangea Learning (matt@apangea.com) for more details. Or simply visit www.apangealearning.com/texaspta for more information

KUDZU.com - Business Reviews: Kudzu.com will literally pay for your opinions! Simply throw your two cents in about your favorite local service businesses and earn 75 cents for each and every review. This is a great fundraising option for working parents who don't have time during the day to volunteer. They can post reviews at the time that's most convenient to them. Go to www.kudzu.com/fundraising to get started today and get 75 cents for each qualified review posted on Kudzu.com!

Support Your Teacher: You may not be aware of this, but teachers on average in the US will spend more than $800 of their own money each year to purchase classroom materials to benefit our children’s education! They do this because they are committed to helping our children reach their fullest potential. Yet we can’t help but believe that classroom supplies shouldn’t have to come from teachers’ paychecks. Support Your Teacher.org (SYT) is a web-based giving program that is designed to reduce – if not eliminate – teachers’ out of pocket expenses for classroom supplies and education products. It’s very easy to start and maintain – no sign up required! Just send a letter and flier to your teachers, and in a few weeks, another letter and flier to your parents. This outline walks you through the process step by step, or you can find more information at www.supportyourteacher.org. Click here for instructions to use Support Your Teacher for flexible giving.

Magazines: Your PTA can make 40% profit margin on just about every magazine subscription your members would want at the deeply discounted prices found when buying them normally. Magazine subscriptions make great gifts, have no shipping costs, and can be acquired online at the very last minute! There’s a magazine out there for just about every taste under the sun. On top of the 40% for your PTA, Texas PTA receives $1 per subscription, making that gift extra special.

Online Mall: Virtually every major online retailer offers an affinity program that can give 1% - 30% of online purchase revenue back to your PTA. Sign up with almost all of them in one stroke with Build The Village Online. Our comparison showed that their simple, across the board split of 60% of all affinity revenue back to your PTA makes this the highest paying of the online mall fundraisers we looked at. We also really liked their approach to marketing which sends e-mail reminders to your shoppers periodically to let them know what’s on sale and to remind them to shop (and Care!).

Electricity: Yes, electricity! Tara energy will donate .5% of the electricity portion of your bill back to your PTA. This doesn’t work in Austin, San Antonio, Tyler, and other areas of the state where electricity is not affected by deregulation. However, over 70% of Texan PTA’s can sign up to participate in Tara energy’s innovative fundraiser.

Adventures in the ARTS: Mystery of the Gooey, Grey Glob, celebrates learning in art and shapes it into a magical adventure. Children discover a place where all the magical things that make art fun, come to life. Both the book and the accompanying CD-ROM include hands-on activities that increase hand-eye coordination, creativity, problem-solving, and math/science skills as well as appreciation for the arts. There are 50 activities on the CD-ROM that range from simple color matching exercises to creating your own animation. Your PTA receives $6 per book sold (selling price is $19.95 plus shipping and handling). To participate, simply promote the program to your members!
Young adult fiction book and CD: Created by Texas Cultural Trust in conjunction with Texas PTA, you don’t even have to sign up for this fundraiser because it’s already set up for you!

Online dues and online donations:Make it easy for your web-savvy members to join online. Some online credit card processors (IE: Paypal, GooglePay), require you to set up an additional account for depositing your dues. Texas PTA found two dues processors that don't have this requirement, are free for your PTA to set up and use, and welcome the opportunity to serve Texas PTAs!

We recommend promoting your Shop and Care program participants to your members as a group using the Shop and Care logo. You can place all the above information on your website and then just refer to it in your launch flier and mass mail.If you participate in any other ongoing fundraisers, feel free to roll them in to your Local PTA Shop and Care promotions. The more opportunities you give your members to support your PTA with their purchases, the more successful your program will be!
It helps to have a website. If your PTA doesn’t have one yet, be sure and sign up for a free website for your PTA at www.ptanetwork.txpta.org. You can use the website to send e-mail to all of your members to let them know about your Shop and Care vendors, host a Shop and Care page so your members can find all your participating vendors, and post your funding needs, goals, and levels reached.
Only a few Shop and Care participants have been finalized so far, but more are coming soon so stay tuned!
